HOW TO SET GOALS FOR YOUR BUSINESSES

Welcome to yet another exciting moment of wise counsel with precious Ogholaja. I am indeed convinced that you will find this article of great help in taking your business to a more profitable height. Today, I am going to talk about, ‘How to set quality goals for your businesses’
However, before I begin, it will be very important that we familiarize ourselves with the four most important key words in the title of this article: Set, quality, goals and businesses. Some people might say, ‘that is not necessary’. Well, that is their opinion. But, I think you will do your self more good if you understand what you are reading. My aim in this site is not to put together some few mutilated article just to rank well in search engine, but it is my commitment to offer you time proven solutions to your needs. Or is that not Ok?
Now, let us look at these key words:
·        Set: to set means to position, locate, lay down, situate, etc.
·        Quality means worth, value, excellence, superiority, eminence, etc.
·        Goal: A goal is a target, purpose, an ambition, aim, objective, etc.
·        Business: A business is any undertaking in which service are rendered or products are sold to a specific market with the aim of meeting a need and making profit.
From the above, it is obvious that we are looking at ways in which we can set valuable and excellent target for our business enterprise. Any business enterprise without quality targets cannot fulfill the tenets of its establishment.Setting quality goals is not only crucial to the success of any business, but it is particularly important for entrepreneurs who can become distracted without focus. Goals direct actions, give you something to aim for, and can serve as a yardstick for measuring your business' success.
However, it is important for me to emphatically state here that, as good as goal setting is to the success of any worthwhile business organization, the way you approach it will determine whether you will be able to attain your goals or not. Majority of people agree that goals are imperative, but less than ten percent of people write down goals or have any pragmatic action plan for attaining them. This is often caused by fear of the unknown. Most people do not like to write goals down on paper (a crucial part of goal setting) because they are afraid to commit to them. From the onset of their journey for success, they have already plan to fail. Whosoever that is afraid to plan and commit himself to the process that will guarantee his or her success, has already planned to fail. If this is your problem, your life can still be turned around for success. Try to remember that a goal does not have to be rigid; it can be changed at any time after you write it down. Also keep in mind that goal-setting becomes easier the more times you undertake it. This has happen to me, and in the process I discover a fundamental truth, “When you have set goals and attain them, the power of goal setting will compel you to set more”
If you truly desire to achieve success in your business, take heed to the following:
Avoid lazy hands
Think big and start from where you are with what you have. Do not limit your self by setting goals that will not provide incentive and motivation for your growth. Some entrepreneurs set goals that are too easily attained because they imagined they will fail if they set big goals. How can any one who desires success in business think this way? If you tend in this direction, apply your heart to wisdom and look for ways to challenge yourself. If you usually aim to add one new client every month, push yourself to shoot for three or five.
Have short-term and long-term goals
Do not have only short term goals while ignoring the long term goals. The accomplishment of short term goals gives one the motivation to accomplish the long term goals. You might want to set daily goals, weekly goals, monthly goals, quarterly goals, annual goals, and even 5-year or 15-year goals. However, you choose to go about it, do it now, do not procrastinate.
One way to generate short-term goals is to first consider your long-term goals. Consider what you want to achieve. Is there a certain amount of money you want to earn or a number of clients you need to sign up by a certain time? If nothing comes to mind immediately, which does happen a times, do not be discourage. Take a few minutes and think about what professional goal you would like to attain, think about what you need to do to deliver more quality service, capture more market share, diversify and or expand.
Once you have determined long-term goals, you can work backward. For instance, if your goal is to make 5,000, 000 this year, you should make a list of what it would entail to make that money. When your list is complete, break those small steps down into goals.
In this case, what is required to make that money becomes your short term goals, and making 5,000, 000 within that specified time becomes your long term goal.  If you encounter difficulty creating your list, ask trusted friends or a successful business expert for help.
Make your goals specific and measurable with a deadline
Do not make your goals so vague that it does not provide a means by which you can judge your success. Do not generalize your goals; be specific so that you will know at the end if you have fulfilled it. Modify your goals by making them specific. All goals should be specific, measurable, and have a time frame.
Persevere and persist intelligently
You need to intelligently persevere and persist to set quality goals for your business. If your system of setting goals does not seem to be working because you are not attaining much of what you write down, do not give up. Keep setting goals for several months and you will find that your goal setting skills has improved. In the same vein, if you constantly achieve no tangible result each time you set goals, stop and ponder. Do not change all the component of your goals, but modify and diversify your approach. For it is insane to continue to do the same thing in the same way over and over again and expect to get a different result.
Do not program yourself for failure
Make sure your goals are attainable. If you aim too high, you are dooming yourself to defeat. And if you aim too low, you will never grow and achieve much; for you can only achieve what you desire and pursue passionately. No man has the right to whatever he has not passionately and vehemently pursue persistently.
Be relevant
Goals should help you attain a specific aim. Look out for goals that are just not going to keep you busy, but active. Goals that is appropriate to the overall success of your business. The commitment to clearly demonstrate to you how to set quality goals for your business is what this article is meant to do. If you do not believe your goals are worthwhile, you will not make the necessary effort to achieve them. That is why you must set quality goals that will help meet the needs of the society, and equality enhance your sense of self worth. The highest form of tragedy is for a man to exist without anything to be proud of.
Constantly review your goals
Keep your short-term goals in plain view – in a place where you can see it daily- so you know what you need to attain. Look at your annual goals monthly to see if you are on track. If the focus of your business changes, do not be afraid to alter your goal. Flexibility is a crucial component of goal-setting.
